If you told Morwell's Anna and Duncan Orr 12 months ago they would be tournament in a 75-kilometre ultra-marathon in Mexico in February this year, they would have laughed it off.

In 2010, Duncan bought Anna the gripping untested 'Born To Run' by Christopher McDougall and to say she was inspired is an understatement.

"I couldn't put it down. Then Duncan be familiar with it and read it again straight away," Anna said.

The story is a disquisition of the author's quest to get his body into a condition where he could run pain free.

After years of affliction from running injuries such as foot and knee pain, the tall and through-and-through McDougall was told repeatedly by medical professionals he did not have the right standard of body for running.

His journey led him to the Copper Canyons of Mexico and the anchoritic Tarahumara people, who practiced simple running techniques that allowed them to run for hundreds of kilometres at a perpetually.
