So many people seemed to use to advantage my article titled “Growing Up in Oak Ridge” that I contemplating it would be a worthy cause to step back in time into the fabulous ‘40s and the considerable ‘50s.

Jackson Square in the ‘40s was referred to as Townsite, where the grownups did their shopping. The soprano school stood up on the hill above Blankenship Field overlooking Townsite. Jackson Generous was a haven for young teenagers. My experiences in the mid-’60s at Jackson Settled/Townsite were some of the best times a kid could enjoy.

Many who are older and grew up in Oak Top edge let me know about their experiences and what a great time it was for them. As a kid on my bicycle, I was very inquisitive as to what went on in Jackson On equal terms. I can remember seeing an old rusty, black, burned-out neon logotype that hung over the door at the bottom of the steps, adjacent to the building where the Soup Scullery now resides. I once asked an older gentleman named Harley, “Did there inured to to be a bowling alley there?” and he replied, “Yes, it was called Medial Bowling Alley.” He said he bowled there every Friday unendingly as a teenager, and he couldn’t wait to get there to see his friend Charlie and try to out trundle him.
